Abbottabad is a health resort, established about 150 years age. It is famous for its scenic beauty and pleasant climate and educational institutions. It is situated in Northern hilly part of Pakistan about 120 km away from Islamabad.
Abbottabad is situated 2500 ft above sea level. This height and lush green hills around make the climate very healthy and enjoyable. Air conditioning is not needed. Therefore students peruse their education in natural climate. This is also the reason that Abbottabad is called education city with 178 educational institutions.
It is also famous for some of it military installations like the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul, which trains officers for the Pakistan Army, and the Training center of important army units, there Frontier force Regiment and the Bloch Regiment. In addition the Army School of Mountain Warfare, the Army School of Music and, more important, the Army Medical Corp Center are all in Abbottabad. Hence it is a peaceful, safe and secure city with law-abiding and helpful citizens.
Abbottabad is well known and recognized as any educational town. It has a population of about 1,20,000 and has 178 schools and colleges. The students in these schools and colleges are from all over Pakistan and form abroad. A public sector medical college, Ayub Medical College, with its 1000 bed teaching hospital complex is an important landmark of Abbottabad and a blessing to the people all around. This is in reality a gift to the people of Hazara due to the efforts of Prof. Dr. A.J Khan the founding Principal of that college, who is at present the Principal of Frontier Medical college. The peaceful healthy environments are ideal for the study of the difficult subject of Medicine.
Abbottabad is surrounded on all side by all sides by beautiful green hills. This provides a great opportunity to the residents for hiking and mountaineering. For those interested in skiing, facilities are available about 30 km away at Kalabagh Cantt during the winter months of January & February. |
